Modern Apartment Vastu: Energy Correction Instead of Expensive Demolition
You cannot move a load-bearing wall in a tower block, and you do not need to. What apartment living actually requires is a different set of remedies.

Classical Vastu was written for buildings that sat on their own ground, with a plot around them and a sky above them. An apartment on the fourteenth floor of a tower has neither. It shares walls, sits above other homes, and cannot be structurally altered even slightly. Most residents conclude, reasonably enough, that Vastu simply does not apply to them.
It does. It just has to be applied to what you actually control, which in an apartment is a great deal more than people assume.
What you cannot change, and why it matters less than you think
You cannot move the entrance, relocate the bathrooms, shift the kitchen's plumbing stack or alter a single structural wall. That list sounds fatal until you notice what it leaves out: the placement of every bed, the direction each person sleeps, where the cooking platform and the sink sit within the kitchen, where the safe and valuables are kept, what occupies the north-east, where mirrors hang, and what the heaviest furniture in the home is standing on.
Those are the levers that do most of the work in an apartment, and they are all available to you without a contractor.
The corrections that matter most in a flat
- Sleep direction. The single highest-yield change in most apartments, and one that costs nothing. Head to the south or east; avoid sleeping with the head to the north.
- The cooking platform. The kitchen's position is fixed, but the platform's placement within it, and which way the cook faces, is often adjustable — and matters more than the room's location.
- The north-east corner. Keep it light, low and uncluttered. In small flats this corner is routinely used for storage, a shoe rack or a washing machine, and it is routinely the first thing that needs to move.
- Heavy mass to the south-west. Wardrobes, safes, the heaviest furniture and stored goods belong in the south-west. Getting the weight distribution right is one of the few genuinely structural things a tenant can still influence.
- Mirrors. Placement and, just as importantly, what they reflect. A mirror facing the bed or reflecting a cluttered corner does more harm than an absent one.
- The entrance threshold. You cannot move the door, but you can control what greets it — light, cleanliness, the absence of clutter and shoes, and what hangs on the wall directly opposite.
Before you buy in a tower
If you are still choosing a unit, the flat's own orientation within the building is worth more than any remedy applied afterwards. Two apartments in the same tower, on the same floor, at the same price, can read very differently depending on which way the entrance faces and where the shared services sit. That choice is free to make and expensive to undo, which makes it the moment where a reading pays for itself most clearly.
